At around midday Josh Mitchell picked me up from the city after my church service finished and we hit the road to drive to Surfers Paradise (we are hoping to get a carload of people with us in the future to drive down together). Usually Josh struggles a lot with lethargy when we drive down, but we have found a cure - I drive (I haven't driven much in the city before!)

So we were pretty alert when we arrived at Surfers Paradise. It was a fine, sunny day and there where many lost and unsaved people out and about. There were tons of people at beach - quite a few people were even brave enough to be swimming.

We arrived at our preaching site (the main stairs leading to the beach opposite MacDonald's at Cavill avenue). Snowy greeted us there and we prayed together at the stairs.

I then started the video recorder rolling as Snowy got up to preach first. While stuttering a bit, he interacted with quite a few people and preached the gospel clearly and well. At one stage wile interacting with a person in the crowd who said that they couldn't hear him Snowy raised his voice - proving that he does have a strong, deep, manly voice accessible...when necessity requires.

Josh Mitchell then got up and preached for the rest of the time. For some reason my Video Camcorder ran out of battery really quick so I had to resort to using the video function on my camera - which worked fine but it uses SD card memory really quick.

Josh interacted well with some friendly Muslims who hung around for quite a while. Overall he had many good conversations with those watching in the crowd and answered well and preached the gospel boldly, urging sinners to repent and put their trust in Jesus alone.

After somewhere between one to two hours Josh finished preaching and stepped down. The sun was well down in the sky by now and the area was starting to be covered in shade. We had some good one-on-one talks sharing the gospel with those who were still around. I met Robert, a middle aged Christian man who actually lives near where we preach. He was very happy to see us out proclaiming the good news of the gospel to the lost and we chatted for quite a while about the Gospel and God's word and he shared his testimony - praise God for bringing Robert to despair in life and then saving him through his powerful Gospel - making Robert His own Child. We serve a mighty God!

Today was a beautiful Queensland afternoon, but unfortunately a terrible feeling of lethargy had crept over me. I couldn't shake it much, and was further perplexed to find that our normal preaching spot was occupied by persons for almost the entire time we were present. Not wishing to lose opportunities to glorify my Lord Jesus, I made a decision for our small gathering to break into one2one's.

The Lord gave me two young ladies, who both immediately professed personal goodness. As I pressed in with the ten commandments, to show them how sinful they were, you could see the haze was lifting and felt discomfort in the presense of God's commandments. I truly believe men will be so entirely uncomfortable when they are delivered into the holy presence of God, on judgment day. The most ardent, intellectual athiest, will shake at the knees, and desire in every part of his being to be immediately absent, from the presence of the loving Lord who made them.

After God allowed me to share His gospel, with these two, I was able to speak with some young french men, who seemed to make very quick use of their lack of english to escape the test of God's law. However some took tracts in english, and I pray God will grant them understanding of His truth, and a repentant heart with which to believe in Jesus!

God also let me speak to a man, who has been emotionally, and tyranically opposed to the gospel proclamation over the last two and a bit years we have been preaching the gospel in this location. We had a lovely conversation, and we exchanged personal contact details. Please pray God helps him understand his need of Christ, that he might use the rest of his days enjoying and proclaiming the goodness of God in sincerity!

With time now passed, we quickly gathered our things and headed back to the car. On the way out, a very old Arabic women, accepted a gospel tract written in her own tongue. Thank God for the Arabic Chick tract, "This was your life". Please pray God converts her, and uses her to win her fellows in her own country!

Friend's I know for certainty that God's, program of gospel proclamation, conversion of His people, and progressive sanctification of His converts, is still marching on.

The question is, what part are you going to play, and working with Him down here on earth..

For Jesus name,

PS. If I can make a very special and urgent request to my readers. Please if you can, I beg you get some christians in a prayer team together to pray for the outreaches. It does make a difference, Spurgeon used to have 100+ plus prayer warrior's beseeching God at times, while he preached. We are in battle, and if we can't have you on field labouring with us, the next best thing is a humble christian on thier knees, supporting us in prayer!

This weeks report by Dave Strachan, who serves with us at 2PM Sunday The Esplanade, Surfers Paradise:

As Josh and I were driving on our way to Surfers Paradise in his car we talked about reaching people with the Gospel. As we approached the city we prayed to our Father in Heaven, seeking his blessing upon the afternoon - that He would be glorified as we boldly and faithfully preached the Gospel.

We arrived and were glad to see Snowy. The three of us then together shared a time of Bible reading and further prayer.

It was a sunny day at Surfer's paradise and many people could be seen walking around the Cavill Avenue beach entrance and hanging out there ... little did many of them know that they were about to hear the most important message that they will ever hear in their entire lifetime - the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

As we were preparing to start preaching, two guys from Helensvale Baptist church - I believe - joined us. They said that they were keen to get involved in substantially helping out the Gold Coast team in the future.

I started to record video footage as Josh got up to preach. It wasn't long before hecklers started to mock us, Josh managed to interact with some of them. An Irish man particularly comes to mind. He kept demanding evidence and as Josh gave him solid evidence (e.g. creation->creator Romans 1:20) the man became irate - to a certain degree - shouting over and over "Evidence, I want Evidence".

After quite a while, two Policemen came and talked with Josh asking him to move down the beach sidewalk a bit. After we found a suitable area, Josh ran to get his soap box (a mini-ladder) while Snowy and I shared the gospel and handed out tracts to those around us. Josh arrived with his ladder and I set the video camera rolling, once again, as Josh started preaching. Quite a number of people heard the Gospel proclaimed and a group of four young adults (2 men 2 women - probably in their early 20s) sat in front of Josh, drinking and smoking, and interacted for quite a while - one of the women claimed to be a Christian.

After Josh finished preaching we shared the Gospel and handed out tracts even more to those around us - and then gathered together to seek the Lord's blessing.

May God have mercy on the unbelievers who heard the Gospel. Please take away the veil that blinds them from seeing the 'the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ' (2 Cor. 4:4) and be pleased to shine in their 'hearts to give [them] the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ' (2 Cor. 4:6) for the glory of your Son. In Jesus name, amen.

I will extol thee, my God, O king; and I will bless thy name for ever and ever. - Psalms 145:1

As I laboured today, I was very mindful of the fact, that it was only by God's providence, that this preaching of the gospel was being accomplished. Adversity was plentiful in many ways, yet God made a way for the gospel to be preached, and what a privilege to those who heard it.

Let no man say, Jesus Christ is dead, for He still commands creation, and He still works to the end that God be glorified.

It must have been almost an hour and 30 minutes into preaching, that a young lady heckler admitted that her grandparents were Christians. My heart just leapt for wonder, knowing that she was only standing before a gospel preacher, because God loved her grandparents, and had designed her day to bring her this way.

At the completion of the gospel being preached, a friend whose name I do not know, preached the gospel for a further three minutes, and it was quite good.

Immediately I was met by a family of Egyptians, who were Christians come to Brisbane, to love the Muslims with the gospel of Jesus Christ. They were very kind to me, and we exchanged contact details. Apparently a young man of about fifteen years, heard the gospel preached last week and brought his whole family out to listen this week.

PS. If you are interesting in joining our team, please be present at Surfers Paradise sign, at the end of Cavill Ave (beach side), at 2PM on Sunday. You can contact me on 0412 759 536.

Please pray that those who are converted have confidence to come to me, and seek fellowship!

The Esplanade (Crn Cavill Ave), Surfers Paradise (GOLD COAST, QLD, AUSTRALIA)

Report by David Strachan

For the duration of the preaching, I was concentrating on my role as a camera man. I enjoyed the preaching and was delighted to witness first-hand the gospel being proclaimed to many lost and desperately needy sinners. Over time, more and more people gathered so that towards the end of the preaching it was, at times, hard to actually see the preacher properly. Comments could often be heard coming from those in the crowd, ranging from many hecklers to a number of professing Christians who were even complementing the preaching.

It was great to see snowy arrive unexpectedly and watch him greet many people while handing out gospel tracts to them and engaging with them in good gospel conversations.

It was a privilege to share the gospel with a number of people afterwards while the crowd was dispersing. There seemed to be a surprisingly larger number of Christians among those in the crowd. A number of them were Roman Catholics (which made sense as it is currently around the time of world youth day). I warned them plainly that Roman Catholicism sadly is a lie, a deception, as it directly goes against the gospel and therefore dishonors Jesus Christ our Lord.

An excellent website which explains this well is:

The Esplanade (Crn Cavill Ave), Surfers Paradise (GOLD COAST, QLD, AUSTRALIA)

Report by Josh Mitchell

God most High, was pleased to grant the hearing of His gospel to many men, women and even little babies today. What a privaledge to serve the most High God, in the gospel proclamation!

Today, as David mentioned was very busy. Jesus the Lord, was pleased to grant sizable crowds for the hearing of His gospel, and it got to the point where I could get quite relaxed, no one seemed to want to leave hardly. You might find that odd, but God has His way, when it pleases Him!

I got to debate politely regarding a number of intellectual positions including: Islam with a few different muslims, the moral dillemna atheists face in Nazi Germany vs the world, who is the real God of the universe, what Christians really believe, and most importantly an abundance of proclamation and defense of the gospel. Honestly I could not to any of this, without the aid of the Holy Spirit, who used me as it pleased Him. Thanks be to God, for his wonderful grace in this wicked earth.

Please pray for the folk out here, God seems to be drawing more people to hear the gospel and it's defence each week, and I am quite mindful, that we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against spiritual wickedness in high places. May God be promoted in your lives and lips!

For Jesus name,

Ephesians 6:12  For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

Praise be unto the Lord Jesus Christ! Today was quite an interesting day, and we could not have started, continued or finished our task without His Sovereign help. Glen Dibben reported a man undercover recording the preaching in a rolled up newspaper and earpiece. An atheistic heckler, gave me quite a bit of work to refute, and a new ager apparently on drugs caused a big scene. A Japanese film maker, made out to the police there was going to be a fight, bringing out two officers unnecessarily. Muslims debated my pastor, Glen Dibben, and praise be to God's wonderful grace, we preached the gospel to many large crowds.

Adversity seems to be the word to describe this day down the coast. It is amazing to me, how God uses a small number of people to accomplish so much. God's Spirit doesn't need anything but Himself, but he is pleased to the Lord's redeemed in His work. What a privilege!

Also an interesting point for me, was how often our hecklers have live debates, and sometimes get a little emotional, when they realise they had believed a lie, and are found with no argument for their position.. yet they almost always shake the preachers hand at the end of each encounter. It is an excellent example to the crowd, of how to have decent argument/debate, without losing it completely, or causing a fight. In fact, we make a lot of friends down the coast, through this historical method of evangelism ordained by Christ Jesus. Frequently non-Christians from various backgrounds, Muslim, atheists etc, will give out their private mobile numbers, or email address's for further conversations.

Thank you for your prayers friends, may God magnify His name here, indeed in all the earth!

May we be "Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints; And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel"!

2PM to 4PM, June 29th 2008
The Esplanade, Cavill Ave, Surfers Parardise QLD

His Majesty, the Lord Jesus guided my steps today, as we preached for the glory of God.

David Strachnan filmed the crowd and preaching, and Snowy Barwick backed me up for preaching. It's such a delight to serve the Most High, with these His beloved children.

We encouraged each other to share the gospel, and prayed together that Jesus might be lifted up high, and God answered our prayer. Our God is a prayer answering God! For me personally, I find it especially wonderful to see the effects of His working through the gospel proclamation.

Smokey, my dear heckler, who has contempt for me as a christian, sat quietly on the preaching block, before we could start. God bless his soul. We left for the bathroom, and when we came back, Smokey was nowhere to be seen. Instead, two asian young ladies sat on the concrete block. I began to get frustrated, that we wouldn't start preaching, and while I considered preaching at a different spot, God moved her away, and we were able to begin.

Later in the afternoon, three young man sat apathetically in front of the preacher, and mocked the idea of God's existence and his judgment after death. However God was having His sovereign way with one of them, and they stayed to hear much dialogue with others, and one of the lads even admitted God's existance and his fear of judgment with Dave Strachnan. I feel sorry for people, when I consider the darkness that they live in each day.

Speaking of darkness, a young lady wearing nothing but a bikini challenged the preacher with her girl friends. Before long, God in His grace had brought her to an understanding that she was far more wicked than she first thought. As this discussion continued, the crowd got quite a bit larger, and the platform was made to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ. May God have mercy on thier souls.

A british fellow towards the end of the afternoon, argued that all the preacher had said, was rubbish. He argued God didn't exist, and that he could judge others. With some difficulty, and gratefully aided by the Spirit of Christ, I was able to communicate to him, that he had no right to judge someone in a world where God did not exist, and that he was guilty, before the God who did exist. He shook my hand at the end, and walked off down the beach.

An cocky and upset asian young man, who had been listening began firing foolish question after foolish question, at the preacher. The crowd had grown quite large and they had come in quite close, it seems many were very eager to hear. Our asian aquaintance argued the silly question, "Who made God?" Well, after some time, by the grace of Jesus, he was quiet. His question was answered, and we made one last attempt at the gospel.

One last time, King Jesus let me preach the gospel, and it was a lovely place to finish. As I stepped down, I was delighted to see all the christians present now about eight in number, were engaging in conversations and handing out tracts. Snowy reported that almost every one took gospel tracts today.

God the Father magnified His holy name in the past, and He sure did it again today.

Please continue to make many petitions to God, for the gospel ministry, For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Ephesians 6:12

The Esplanade, Surfers Paradise 22nd June 2008: Operation 513 Gold Coast

His Majesty, the Lord Jesus Christ, was pleased to permit the public proclamation of the eternal gospel in the ears of both his children, and the lost, perishing wicked. May His Majesty, be pleased with those things he ordains.

The Lord Jesus Christ, my precious Saviour and friend. There is no other like him, amongst the children of men.

Today was a wonderful Australian afternoon, exemplified by beautiful Queensland weather. Waves washed gently against the soft white sand, and the breeze moved softly across the land. Concrete buildings soared up from the ground, and decorated the landscape for kilometres, and in the midst we prepared to be obedient servants of the Lamb.

Today, Snow (Victor Barwick) preached with me again. It was good to have him with me. David Strachnan also assisted with the camera. These men are a pleasure to serve with.

Imagine a conveyor belt, that carries people from one place to another. Now imagine, that conveyor belt starts about 500 metres away, and is arriving near where we preach. Be imaginative, and consider every three minutes, a new heckler arrives, with an argument as to why God doesn't exist, or why logic must be used to arrive at the illogical argument that "nothing became something..", etc etc.  Put a grinning christian preacher in front of them, and you have our Sunday the 22nd of June, 2008.

By God's grace we saw muslims, new ager's and all sorts of other "believers" hear the gospel together. A few people took mobile numbers, and wanted to talk more over a coffee. An agnostic argued for a long period of time, and created a wonderful opportunity for lots more people to hear the law and the gospel, through the medium of polite, public debate.

David spent time with a New Age lady who tried to help him find peace with God. She was a relativist, agreed with the gospel, and tried to ask him for money. She left unhappy.

I made a mistake today. That should get your attention. A nice young lady, who was quite affectionate for her sin, mocked me by saying: "next your going to tell us the sky isn't blue.."

I responded by saying, the sky was not blue, but clear, and really just a reflection of the water, to which the crowd nodded. She agreed with me. Poor crowd, poor me. Snowy corrected me later, and gave me the physics reason as to why the sky appears blue. Then you have it, public confession.

Now friends, this is our report for the week, I trust you shall make busy promoting Jesus name, in a perverse and evil generation. Pray that God grant us boldness, and to open our mouths to speak when we ought!

May the God of all peace, order your lives for His glory,

josh mitchell

15th June 2008 - Open Air Preaching & Witnessing for Jesus

"Holy Holy Holy is the Lord of Hosts, the whole earth is full of His glory" - Seraphim before the King

The Majesty of heaven, ordained gospel proclamation all over the earth this weekend, and much was accomplished by His order. The hardening of men's hearts as His word was preached, and perhaps even the softening and drawing of some men and women to himself. God only knows, and God alone shall be glorified in it.

The Lord Jesus Christ, is my majestic King, the holy One of Israel, the glorious Saviour and defender of my soul. It is such a pleasure to serve him, and observe his hand at work where I was in the Gold Coast this weekend.

Within minutes of preaching, some Arabic lads approached, whose names will be protected for thier sakes. After professing average goodness in themselves, we began to examine the ten commandments of God together. After a few minutes, our first Arabic aquaintance, began to look around and seemed to want to leave, but he stayed with us, until it seemed to much for him, and he left with his friend.

Sometimes it is difficult for a preacher, when people leave before hearing the good news, but God is Lord, and will accomplish with His word what he intends. Shortly after a Seventh Day Adventist named Michael came along, and he took the good test humbly, and then admitted salvation was only possible by repentance and faith in Jesus alone. I stepped down and had a private chat with Michael. Snowy Barwick, began witnessing while I chatted to Michael.

One of Snowy's three young men that he was witnessing to, handed back a gospel tract, and laughed that evolution could be false. Since he stepped away from Snowy, I challenged him while I was sitting on the concrete block. He laughed and we began to chat, and shortly I was standing and preaching to the gathering crowd that God had called in. From this point in, things started to get interesting. All sorts of people started to ask questions, and challenge Christianity, to which God graciously answered all thier questions and refuted the false strongholds that exalted themselves against His holy throne.

The gospel was able to be preached during the apologetics session more than once, although we began to have some apparently devilish attacks during the preaching. A man with black sunglasses came in, and began to shout very loudly, slandering God and calling Him, wicked. He would not dialogue, and many people thought him to be a very angry harsh sort of person. The older SDA man, began to get very angry with the devilman, and things started to get very heated. While they argued angrily, I answered the quiet questions of a little asian women, who had drawn close to the preaching.

I decided to step down, in accordance to some advice given to me by a kind Surfers Paradise Police Constable, and allow the situation to dissolve. Almost immediately a tall man, whom I have nicknamed Smokey, started putting his finger in my face, and telling me that christians never listen to others. He walked off without letting me respond. May God bless him. I thank God for Smokey, because it reminds me how hard my heart was towards God before he changed me, and made me into one of his little children. God can save Smokey, because he saved me.

The crowd began to dispurse, once I stepped down, and thankfully the devilman having lost his opponent, also dissappeared. The Constable's advice was very effective, and I thank God for it. A number of people accepted gospel tracts, and I returned to chat with the older SDA man. Benjie the young man who had first argued evolution with the preacher, was sitting next to Mr SDA, and even helped hold my bible, so I could put my bag down and talk to this guy. Mr SDA didn't like what I had to say, and was quite mean in the way he spoke to me, but praise God for His grace, I was able to be gentle with him. At this point the SDA man, calmed down and stopped pointing at me. (He was quite an animated character for an older gentleman).

Just then two Senior Police officers interupted the conversation and asked Josh Mitchell, what he knew about reports they had received, that a fight was going to break out. My report of a man with black sunglasses coming into the open air and yelling loudly, and not talking being the cause of the problem was confirmed by Victor Barwick, and two old men who were bystanders to the event. We followed the advice of a Police Constable a number of months back, that if someone crazy or angry arrived near the preaching, we should just step down and let the situation dissolve. This we did.

A lady with her children, encouraged me to keep preaching the gospel, and gave her word to email and pray for the preaching ministry. She is was a lovely Presbyterian lady, whom God used to encourage me muchly.

May Jesus name be promoted high in the Gold Coast,

And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the LORD doth man live. Deuteronomy 8:3

It should not be odd to the creatures of this world, that the Creator would want to work in the field of his creation. King Jesus, works in the Gold Coast, just like he works in many other places around the world simultaneously, by His Spirit. He surprises me every now and again, with things I would not expect. A simple revelation that God is not an robot, neither one that must conform to our invention, of how He should work. Our God is a sovereign God, who reigns over the heathen, and uses the foolish things of this world for the promotion of the knowledge of His Name.

Jehoshaphat was correct when he said: "O LORD God of our fathers, art not thou God in heaven? and rulest not thou over all the kingdoms of the heathen? and in thine hand is there not power and might, so that none is able to withstand thee?"

I am glad that God took the foolish men from the world, who are now called by Jesus name, to serve Him on the Gold Coast. This week my friends, David Strachnan, and "Snowy" Barwick, were a wonderful support to the gospel proclamation, in the face of danger and arrest, and I am thankful for their labours. Snowy preached the gospel, and he laboured in vain for a crowd, but gloriously for Jesus name! He will improve with practise, under the Lord's blessing.

Today the fool of fools, stepped up to preach for Jesus, and God blessed the preaching with persons whom he desired to hear the word of God.

Brendan was a young man, who laboured under the law of God. Heprofessed that at death, one became a ghost and floated around the earth. His proof was his opinion, and yet he believed it, rather than God's word. After a while of chatting, he excused himself to take a mobile phone call, and James an older man began to interact with me.

I thank God for this man, because he really made things interesting, which built up the crowd to a considerable size for a good hour. James was by my estimation of Arabic descent.

James taunted and mocked, and tried to psychologically manipulate me to a position of uncertainty, but God gave me the grace and presence of mind, to continue refuting his arguments, and bringing it back to the glory of God, and His gospel. James was joined by a faithful believer in Darwin and the evolution theory, both men attempted to shame God, but God did not let the joining of thier hands go unpunished.

Smokey, our acquaintance, who frequently causes trouble for the preaching, said a few words, but left when I smiled and waved to him. I am really happy to see him keep coming back because, God clearly has some reason for making this one man come back to be near Christians who are preaching the gospel. I don't understand that reason, perhaps it is his salvation.. God only knows.
