It is because of His death upon the cross that we can have peace with God, and the way we obtain that forgiveness for our sin is by humbly coming unto Him in repentance (turning from sin), the Bible tells us: "...if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved..." For "everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." (Romans 10:9,13).
But the word belief means more than just having an intellectual belief, but it means a trusting in, that is a trust to save ones life. It means that our good works won't save us, and it means that we cannot earn our way to Heaven (Ephesians 2:8-9). The only way to Heaven is by repenting and trusting in Jesus Christ alone (John 14:6)!
